Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Resources and Supports
Chinook Sexual Assault Centre
What is the Sexual violence & Child abuse Support Navigators Program?
Chinook Sexual Assault Centre
Specialized support for individuals impacted by sexual violence and child abuse in Southwestern Alberta.
Chinook Sexual Assault Centre (CSAC) delivers coordinated, evidence-based services designed to reduce harm, strengthen resilience, and improve long-term outcomes for children, youth, and adults.
Serving Southwestern Alberta, CSAC plays a leadership role in modernizing how the region prevents and responds to sexual assault and child abuse. By aligning justice, health, and social services within a coordinated framework, the Centre simplifies complex systems and strengthens outcomes for individuals and families.
Support is confidential, client-directed, and grounded in evidence-informed practice. The focus extends beyond immediate safety to sustained healing, restored agency, and meaningful progress. Services are available regardless of when the assault occurred and include:
Crisis and Immediate Support
Trauma-informed crisis support is available for individuals of all ages. Services focus on emotional stabilization, safety planning, practical assistance, and clear information about available options. Reporting to police is not required to access support.
Trauma Therapy
CSAC provides specialized trauma therapy delivered by trained professionals using evidence-based modalities, including approaches such as TF-CBT and DBT-informed interventions. Services are strength-based and client-led, recognizing that healing unfolds differently for each person. Therapy supports individuals and families in restoring a sense of control and moving forward with greater stability and confidence.
Specialized Justice Navigation
Specialized Justice Navigation services support those impacted by sexual violence as they navigate the justice system. Services include information about reporting options, assistance with police reporting if an individual chooses to report, court preparation and accompaniment, help understanding legal processes, and ongoing guidance throughout the justice journey.
Peer Support Groups
Facilitated peer groups provide connection in a structured, supportive environment. Groups reduce isolation, strengthen coping skills, and build resilience through shared experience and guided discussion.
Prevention and Community Education
Research-informed education, training, and consultation are delivered across schools, workplaces, community organizations, faith communities, and professional sectors throughout Southwestern Alberta. Programming strengthens knowledge, builds confidence in responding to disclosures, and enhances community capacity to prevent and address sexual violence and child abuse. By equipping individuals and organizations with practical tools and evidence-based guidance, CSAC helps create safer, more responsive environments across the region.
Chinook Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (CCYAC)
The Chinook Child and Youth Advocacy Centre is a specialized program of CSAC providing a coordinated response to child abuse. The CCYAC model brings law enforcement, child protection, and mental health professionals together in one child-centred location to reduce repetition, minimize additional trauma, and strengthen investigative and therapeutic outcomes.
Children and non-offending caregivers receive coordinated support from disclosure through investigation, court processes, and healing services. This integrated approach improves efficiency, strengthens case quality, and supports long-term wellbeing for children and families. This service is only accessible by referral from justice serving partners.
