System Navigator Training

What is system Navigator Training?

The training offered through the Lethbridge ICA focuses on teaching individuals how to navigate the services that are available in the Lethbridge community with the goal of making system navigation easier in the community. This includes knowing where to find the most up to date information on resources, connecting with other navigators as well as when and where to turn to for additional assistance.

All of the training offered on this page is freely available for individuals in lethbridge looking to support others in their lives with finding and navigating services in our Community. Different levels of training are available to meet the needs of the community, with training available on a variety of topics.

This page will help you find the training that is right for you from training that is currently available.

If you are new to the Lethbridge ICA, you should start with either the Tier 1 System Navigator Training or the Tier 2 System Navigator Training before taking any of the Population/Trend specific trainings that are available.

If you are looking for training that is not currently offered, or have a training that your organization can offer to the community, please use the links at the bottom of the page.

Registration Instructions

To help with the registration process, please read the following instructions prior to registering, and reach out if there are any issues:

  • Prior to taking other sessions, all individuals should first take Tier 1 or Tier 2 System Navigator Training to help with an understanding of the Lethbridge ICA System

  • When registering for sessions, please sign up with the name, email and organization of the individual who is attending the session so that faciliators can have an accurate list of attendees in advance of the training

  • Registration for sessions is opened two months prior to the scheduled date to help prevent no-shows on the training dates.

  • Additional information for trainings may be sent out or requested by the trainers, please check the email that you are registering with regularly

  • Calendar invites for trainings are sent out once a week and not automated after registering. Please give a week for the calendar invite to arrive and follow-up with Community LINKS if there are any issues.

  • If you would like a copy of your registration, please select the option to have one emailed to you when filling out the registration form

  • If you are registering the same week as the training is being offered, please follow up with a phone call to Community LINKS after submitting the form.

  • If you are no longer able to attend a training that you have registered for, please email Community LINKS to free up the space for other attendees.

Tier 1 System Navigator Training

Training Length: 1 - 1.5 Hours

Trainer: CMHA Lethbridge

Tier 1 System Navigator Training focuses on the essentials of navigating and learning about the Lethbridge Intergrated Coordinated Access System. At this training individuals will learn some background information about the goals and development of the ICA System, learn about the components and set-up of the current system, recieve orientation in the tools for navigation of the system, as well as tips on supporting individuals.

This training is aimed at individuals who either are asked for help as a part of their day to day life but do not work in the systems of care in our community (ie. bus drivers, coaches, teachers, faith leaders) or individuals who work at organizations in the community and support individuals at a level that does not require ongoing follow-up or case management or the capacity to attend Tier 2 Training.

Training is available virtually, or can be requested in-person for organizations and groups throughout the community. Please reach out if you would like to schedule a Tier 1 Training for your group.

Tier 2 System Navigator Training

Training Length: 7 Hours

Trainer: CMHA LETHBRIDGE

Tier 2 System Navigator Training aims to give individuals who work supporting individuals in the community with the training to help support system navigation with their clients and the individuals they serve. This session is for the core training required by Tier 2 System Navigators and covers an in-depth background and walkthrough of the Lethbridge ICA System and the tools associated with it.

Tier 2 System Navigators are additionally trained in the following:

  • Universal Screener

  • Stabilization Fund Applications

  • Referrals to Housing Supports through the Client Action & Resource Table

  • Scenario Based Work & Case Consultation Skills

This training is aimed at individuals who work with individuals that may be on a case load or face significant barriers to accessing services that require assessments/follow-up appointments.

This training is the first of four requirements in order to receive a certificate for being a Tier 2 System Navigator. In addition to this training, Tier 2 System Navigators are required to take the following trainings:

  • Indigenous Priority Population & Cultural Safety Training (2 Days - 7 Hours Each)

  • Seniors Priority Population Training (3 Hours)

  • Youth Priority Population Training (3 Hours)

Priority Population Trainings

Priority Population Trainings offered through the Lethbridge ICA aim to provide System Navigators with the tools needed to serve some of the most common demographics that are seen in our community. These trainings are by funded Priority Population Navigators and are required by Tier 2 System Navigators as a part of their certification to ensure that Tier 2 System Navigators are equppied with the knowledge encessary to support a wide range of individuals, and build the connections needed to refer to/consult with other programs.

Anyone signing up for these trainings is required to first take Tier 1 or Tier 2 System Navigator Training to ensure that they have an understanding and background on the Lethbridge ICA System.

Additional Training for System Navigators

Depending on their role, the current trends within our community, additional training may be offered or promoted through the Lethbridge ICA with the goal of promoting professional development and increased capacity for System Navigators. These trainings may address emergent issues or see to increase the skill set of System Navigators operating in Lethbridge.

These trainings are curated and approved by the Community of Practice as providing skills that are relevant to supporitng individuals in our community and led by organizations with expertise in these areas.

Additionally, Organizations & System Navigators can make requests for additional trainings that they feel would benefit them, or advocate for training that they can provide to other System Navigators to enhance the capacity of the system. These requests are brought to the Community of Practice for further discussion.

Responding to Disclosures - Sexual Violence Training

Training Length: 3 Hours

Training Facilitated By: Aurora

This training aims to provide System Navigators with the tools to respond appropriately and respectfully to a disclosure of sexual violence in their work. The session looks at myths, facts, best practices and edcuation around sexual violence, as well as how to support yourself and the individual you are supporting through such a disclosure. The training is led and developed by Aurora (formerly Chinook Sexual Assualt Centre) and freely available throughout the year to System Navigators.
